Sherman Area Historical Society

Our Mission
Our mission is to collect, preserve, and publicly share the history and culture of our area by creating exhibits, organizing community events, and using digital technology. We represent the towns of Benedicta, Sherman, Silver Ridge, and Stacyville/Sherman Station

Explore Local History
We have collected many digital archives related to the towns of Benedicta, Sherman, Silver Ridge, and Stacyville. Many handwritten records have been transcribed into spreadsheets or text documents for ease of reading. Additional documents will be transcribed as time allows. Our US Census records include the towns of Davidson and T2R6. If you are familiar with the area, then you understand that certain areas of T2R6 are associated with Benedicta and others with Stacyville and/or Davidson. We did our best to reconcile this during our transcription based on local knowledge and careful interpretation of census dates. Our digital archives include
US Census Records from 1840-1950
Maps
Photos
Misc. Historical Records
Personal History Stories
History of Old Zack
Genealogy Records
Civil War History

Our Activities
The Society is very active in local events. We fund raise thru food sales at the Sherman Bandstand on Memorial Day weekend. We also hold an auction, yard sale and the baked bean supper during the annual Old Home Days celebration. Additionally we participate in the Festival of Trees at the local school. This past year we began participating in Wreaths Across America by placing wreaths at each of the Veteran's Memorials in our towns
Exhibitions
Come visit us at "The Red House" house in downtown Sherman and take a walk thru the area's history with our large display of photographs, documents and other items that have been donated or are on loan
Community Events
Now that we have a home of our own, we anticipate hosting many events possibly including tea parties, cribbage tournaments and other fun activities
Community Engagement
We want and value community input. If you have any information you would like to share or items you would like to donate, we would be extremely grateful for your input.
